Here’s the tea

Ladies’ Estate Planning Tea® was founded by Aquanetta Betts, who has worked as an attorney, and charitable advisor. After years of working with women and families who traditionally had not been in conversations about estate planning, she saw a need to address this area.

Now that the Great Wealth Transfer is here – clients and donors are looking for more charitable estate planning opportunities to explore. Women of all wealth levels – need plans.

Over the years, she has heard far too many excuses – that do not hold water. For example, I do not have much, my children will do the right thing, or why should I care? You too have heard these excuses, and you have often watched the disastrous outcome from such mistakes when things fall apart because there was no plan in place for loved ones to follow.

Stop the havoc

The lack of estate planning in many communities often wreaks havoc: family harmony ruined for generations, wealth accumulation destroyed, and charitable folks fail to continue their legacy of giving to their favorite causes. In an effort to dispel the myths that only the wealthy with big bank accounts and lots of assets should have an estate plan – Aquanetta believes in getting the message out that estate planning is for “us all”. Yes, that means you too.

Stay encouraged

Aquanetta finds encouragement from three women – all born in the early 1900s. Only one of the women had a high school diploma, one had a 7th grade education, and the other less than that. What they all had in common was an estate plan that they left as a roadmap for their families, and favorite causes. One of the women left scholarship funds for students who need financial assistance to complete their degrees (yet this generous women never graduated high school or had a high paying career).
